Red Flags to Watch Out for When Hiring an Asphalt Contractor
Hiring the right asphalt contractor isn’t an easy task. There are criteria you need to think of before considering a company. There are a lot of promising contractors out there, but you can make your list shorter by identifying the red flags and eliminate the companies that give off a bad vibe. Here are some of the things that you should look out for:
Advance Payment Before Signing of Contract
Asphalt isn’t cheap, but if a contractor would ask you to give them money even before the start of a project, then it’s time to back out and cross them out of your list. A legit asphalt contractor would not ask for any amount unless it’s properly stipulated in a legal document. You should be wary of those potential contractors who would convince you to give them money to buy asphalt in advance. It’s probably a scam.
Offering Very High Discounts
Some of these scammers would get your interest by offering a ridiculously high discount. They might offer you a 70 percent savings, but it’ll give you poor asphalt quality, or they could just run after getting the money. You have to be aware that quality comes with a price, and if they’re suddenly lowering the price, find out what it all entails. Don’t hesitate in asking questions.
Vague and Unresponsive
If you ask for a time frame, and they dodge the question by saying you need to pay first, then it’s time to remove them from your list. It’s also a red flag if it takes long periods before they could even provide you with an answer to normal inquiries like references. A competent asphalt contractor would proactively provide you details about the time and cost estimate. They shouldn’t be answering you in puzzles.
